Where Berlitz is helping children.

Preschools in the Kisumu district, Kenya

Children in our societies all have the opportunity to attend schools. However, in countries such as Kenya, it is a privilege to be afforded such a right. Many are deprived of these possibilities. Until now, only 11% have been able to go to preschools. Those without an education are destined to live a life of poverty. Therefore, the Berlitz Education Foundation for Children supports the building of preschools in the villages of Diemo, Simba Gero and Anwanya in the Kenyan district of Kisumu. There is no doubt that the earlier children receive assistance, the greater the chances of positive development and a promising future.

With the contributions and donations that have been received this year, Berlitz has already been able to get projects underway. The completion of sanitary facilities are preventing the spread of diseases and securing the private sphere of the boys and girls. Furthermore, the providing of classrooms with 20 tables, 68 chairs, games and learning materials, has created an improved learning environment. Last but not least, the implementation of a 2 year further education program for the preschool teachers will ensure the right supervision and support for the children.

The foundation's funds are used for:

  • Building three new preschools for children aged 3 to 6
  • Fitting the preschools with water tanks
  • Setting up toilets and washrooms
  • Equipping the schools with furniture, learning materials and toys
  • Training educators and teachers

We hope to help increase the rate of enrollment in schools through these measures.

A Children's Village in Dorohoi, Romania

There is an endless number of regions in Romania where street children and orphans are fighting for survival day after day. They have never had the chance to go to school. For a long time, attempts were made to keep the fate of these children secret. However, after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the opening of the border in 1989/1990, the suffering of the many orphans came to light: shunned, alone and abandoned in state-run homes in Romania. The Berlitz Educational Foundation for Children wants to enable children and young people in Romania to lead a better life. We are therefore supporting:

  • The construction of a Children's Village for street children and orphans
  • The building of a new school and
  • The creation of vocational training opportunities in technical professions

The aim is to enable the children in the Children's Village to attend nursery and school, free of charge. With this support, the children receive an education and therefore the opportunity to lead a humane life in their home country.
